Kitchen Sinks Come In Every Color!

Looking for a traditional white kitchen sink? How about a contemporary black kitchen sink?  Maybe you'd like something bold or wild to match a striking color scheme.  There's good news – sinks don't just come in white or silvery steel. Depending on the type of material you'd like, you can get a black kitchen sink, a white kitchen sink, or even a pink one!

Some materials don't lend themselves well to unexpected color.  These include standard stainless steel sinks and copper sinks.  However, enameled cast iron sinks, while usually seen in white, can be made in any color of the rainbow. Plastic sinks come in all shades, and even marble and granite sinks are available in more colors than you'd think.

Step one in finding the right kitchen sink for you is deciding on what characteristics, other than looks, you'd like it to have.  Do you need a sink that stands the test of time?  How about resistance to scratching or chipping?  Does your kitchen sink need to stand up to high heat or cold, and is cost a big factor? How about weight?  Once you've answered these questions, you'll be able to decide what material you'd like to use for your sink.  Granite is distinctive and lasting, but can chip easily, and is expensive.  Enameled cast iron has high durability and a lower price, but can lose its finish if cleaned roughly, and is very heavy. Plastic sinks are inexpensive, but easily scratched, and can be susceptible to temperatures.

Once you know what material you'd like for your kitchen sink, you can start investigating the range of color options.  Natural stone comes in many colors, and can be dyed to many more.  However, you should only choose stone if you're willing to have imperfections and patterns in your sink.  Natural stone goes best with a countertop in a matching stone, and can be expensive.

Enameled cast iron comes in a wide range of colors.  There are black kitchen sinks, white kitchen sinks, and even green and blue ones.  Many different styles and sizes are available, in case you have an oddly sized or shaped kitchen.  These kitchen sinks offer a smooth, glossy ceramic surface that can be a bit chilly in the winter.  They also retain heat poorly, so you'll want to reheat dishwater as it cools.

Plastic sinks provide the widest color range.  If there's a special shade you're looking for, an acrylic or other plastic sink may offer the solution.  However, you may be getting just the right color at the expense of durability.  Plastic kitchen sinks are probably best for light use, or when you can't afford a different material.
