Cleaning Your Porcelain Kitchen Sink
Keeping your Kohler porcelain kitchen sink clean isn't the easiest task. Even the nicest porcelain sink starts to look dirty or dingy, and it can pick up spots and stains. However, while porcelain isn't completely effortless to maintain, it's still a great choice for sinks. Porcelain kitchen sinks are cost efficient, durable, and go with just about any decorating scheme. They even add to the value of your house, particularly if you own a high end brand, such as a Kohler porcelain kitchen sink. So, if you want one of these sinks or already have one, here are a few steps and tips to help you keep it looking its best. First, make sure you clean your sink regularly. Allowing dirt to build up is one cause of stains. Use only non scratching sponges and scrubbers, and non abrasive cleansers. Scrubbing hard can actually scratch the upper layer of the sink, causing it to stain a lot more easily. If you do see a spot or stain, be sure to deal with it right away. Lemon juice can work as a relatively gentle bleaching agent on small, fresh stains. Cut a lemon in half and rub it directly on the stain, then allow the juice to sit for ten minutes or more. Before you rinse, check to see if the stain has been faded at all. If it remains, continue to allow the lemon juice to sit on the stain until you see fading. If the stain can't be removed by lemon juice alone, try equal parts of lemon juice and alum. Scrub with a soft sponge dipped in this mixture until you see fading or the stains disappear. It might take a few tries to get the whole stain out, so don't feel discouraged if it doesn't work right away. Bleach out stains that won't be removed by gentler methods using non abrasive cleansers with chlorine bleach, or liquid chlorine bleach. You can even stop up the sink and fill it with bleach or bleach and water, allowing it to do its work for ten minutes or more. Once stains have disappeared, be sure to rinse thoroughly. This is a last resort, however. Bleach and other harsher cleansers can take the surface off your sink, causing it to stain more easily. Remember to have adequate ventilation and skin protection when you use strong chemicals. Once stains have been removed and the sink thoroughly rinsed, you can improve the shine of your sink using vinegar. Just apply white vinegar straight from the bottle to give your porcelain kitchen sink a shiny appearance. As long as the surface is undamaged, you'll get a great looking sink once more.
