Consider a Beautiful Soapstone Sink

Stone is steadily becoming a more popular material for kitchen sinks, with soapstone being the most common.  You may also see granite kitchen sinks and sinks made from composite stone.  These solid materials offer a warm, soft feeling.  They can even be made seamless for easy clean up.  Since they have such a comfortable mass, many people enjoy soapstone sinks in their kitchens.

These sinks come in two basic types.  Carved soapstone sinks are the most expensive, made from one piece of stone that a basin has been hollowed from.  These sinks have no seams, and can have rounded corners.  In general, they cost about twice as much as slab assembled sinks, but are more convenient and may be considered more attractive.

Assembled soapstone sinks are made from slabs attached together, creating a basin.  This traditional method of constructing a soapstone sink leads to a less expensive finished product, with a spacious basin.  However, corners can trap dirt, and seams that aren't maintained properly may leak.  If you take good care of your slab constructed soapstone sink, it'll last for a long time, however.

You can use your soapstone sink just like it is, or get one that has an oil finish.  An oil finish can slightly increase the resistance of your sink to stains, and make the colors a lot deeper and richer.  In the end, it depends on the aesthetic you're going for - many people like the pale look for natural soapstone.

Staining can be a problem, but it's not a big one.  That's because stains on soapstone sinks are only on the surface.  Even if you have an oil finish on your sink, the surface can be sanded, returning the sink to its original state.

Since soapstone sinks aren't mass produced in the same way as a fiberglass or steel kitchen sink might be, you can easily get custom sinks made if necessary.  These sinks are available in any style, including bowls, ovals, traditional basins, and even triangular sinks.  If you have an unusual kitchen or a hard to fit corner, soapstone might be the perfect fit.

If you've been thinking about a kitchen remodel, be sure to consider replacing your old kitchen sink with one made from soapstone.  It can add a lot of beauty to your home, and be very functional.  These sinks add a wonderful old world ambiance to just about any kitchen.  Check out all the options available to you today.  You can find soapstone in white, black, green, gray, and many more colors to go with any kitchen decorating scheme, so there's sure to be one that'll work for you.
